I think I was 12 or 13 when I first saw Ridley Scott’s Alien, and it must have been late night on HBO or Cinemax (I’m not quite old enough to have caught the first run in theaters). I was prepared to be terrified, but I didn’t expect the deep sense of wonder that preceded that infamous chestburster scene, nor the scrappy, breathless fight for survival that followed.
