Goodbye 2016

In slightly more than half a day, we’ll be celebrating the end of 2016 and the beginning of a new year.  (They’ve already done so down-under and good on you, mates!).

I suspect that, like myself, most will be bidding goodbye to 2016 a bit more enthusiastically than they are welcoming 2017 in.

I’ve not looked at numbers to see whether 2016 really has been worse than many other years, but it really doesn’t matter as it certainly feels that way.  We’ve lost far too much this year for anyone to be comfortable with it.  Far too many people we care about have gone.

Not to mention the hits that hope-for-the-future has taken.  I know everyone’s take is different, but I am, for the first time in a long time, feeling more fear and dread than I am hope.

It feels as if the whole world has decided to take a step back from progress.

I sure hope that’s not the case.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Amazing Stories team for helping me, and Amazing Stories, through a most difficult year.  They’ve shown me, once again, that anniversaries such as this are not about the passage of time, they’re about our interactions and relationships with people.

Do yourselves a favor and take a moment today and tomorrow to let those people who are important to you know how important they are.  Spread a little love, bring a little joy.

Then take a deep breath, square your shoulders and step into 2017, cause it’s coming at us whether we want it to or not.

Have a wonderful evening, everyone!  Be safe!
