New Releases in Science Fiction Romance for January

The new releases keep rolling in the New Year! (Don’t tell me you had any doubts!)

Always exciting to have a new Emmy Chandler Prison Planet story and she just released  Glass Cage, a novella, as book seven, which I promptly one-clicked. The plot: “They’re organ donors. Your job is to keep them clean and in good shape, until they’re no longer needed.”

Convicted of petty theft, Katerina Mathern is sentenced to the prison planet Rhodon, zone twelve, where unresponsive convicts await the removal of organs they never agreed to donate. Kat is horrified by the ward full of comatose prisoners she’s required to attend, but she’s even more horrified to discover, when one gorgeous, unconscious man begins responding to her voice, that the patients are aware of every horrific thing that happens to them.

Newly convicted felon Beau Desmond wakes up paralyzed in a hospital bed, missing one of his kidneys—his rare blood type and perfect physical condition have put him in high demand in a for-profit organ trade run by the prison. Trapped in the cage of his own mind, he can only wait for the rest of his organs to be taken one at a time, until he hears Katerina’s cheerful chatter and falls hard for his beautiful caretaker.

When Kat realizes Beau can hear her, she becomes determined to get him on his feet and off the planet before the surgeon can cut anything else out of him. But now that she’s woken her sleeping beauty, their escape must be a team effort—especially once they discover the horrifying reason Kat was really sent to zone twelve…

I’m always up for a good post-apocalyptic tale and I’ve been enjoying the snippets that author S. A. Hoag has been sharing from Bloodline: Book Three of the Wildblood so this is on my To Be Read list. The book blurb: Learning the truth about the Altered, and the legacy of The Vista, is the first priority of Team Three. It may earn them exile from their home. They know this. Failure is not an option.

Loyalty has its price. So does revenge. Someone has to pay.

A post-apocalyptic action adventure!

The Wildblood Series – No one remembers what started the war, the big one. Civilization stopped, and what came next was fueled by rage and fear.

Twenty years on, a tiny refuge, a place called The Vista, may be one of the last vestiges of humanity. Isolated, guarded, and hiding a dark secret, the people have survived World War Last, and they are content with that. Their children, however, are not. The search for others will send them out into a world they know nothing about, where the line between enemy and ally is blurred.

Another book I one-clicked immediately was USA Today Best Selling Author Anna Hackett’s Touch of Eon (Eon Warriors Book 2), because I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the series. The plot for this novel: She’ll do anything to free her sister and save the Earth from invasion, even if she’s blackmailed into stealing sacred alien artifacts…and becomes the prey of the dark, deadly warrior sent to hunt her down.

Special Forces Space Marine Lara Traynor wants to save her sister and her planet from annihilation by the deadly insectoid Kantos. Earth’s Space Corps give her one option: steal three gems sacred to the Eon Warriors. Lara has never failed a mission and she doesn’t plan to start now. What she doesn’t expect is the big, hard-bodied warrior the Eon sent to stop her.

Security Commander Caze Vann-Jad was born and raised to be the best Eon warrior in the empire. Honed by the military academy, his years as a stealth agent, and by his hard warrior father, he has never failed. He knows one weak, inferior Terran is no match for him. But when he finds himself face to face with the tough, skilled Lara, he realizes he’s underestimated the female warrior.

When they are attacked by a Kantos kill squad, it soon becomes clear that the Kantos are planning something far darker and dangerous. Caze and Lara are forced to change their dangerous battle of wits and skill into a fierce battle for survival. Neither of these fighters believe in love, but on the trail of a stolen gem, they will ignite an unstoppable desire, and discover that not only are their lives at stake, but their hearts as well.

USA Today Best Selling Author Amanda Bouchet is well known for her fantasy romances and has now stepped over to try her hand at science fiction romance with Nightchaser, the first book in a projected series. I’m about halfway through the book at the moment, very interesting world building and the hero and heroine are caught in a thorny dilemma so I can’t wait to see how it’s all resolved. The story: Tess Bailey: the galaxy’s Most Wanted.

Captain Tess Bailey is in deep trouble. She and her crew are on the run, pursued by a tyrant who’ll take them dead or alive. Tess’s best hope is a tall, dark, and much-too-appealing stranger, Shade Ganavan, who says he can help her. But his motivations are far from clear…

Shade Ganavan: arrogance, charm…and that special something that makes you want to kick him. With the dreaded Dark Watch closing in, what Tess and Shade don’t know about each other might get them killed…unless they can set aside their differences and learn to trust each other before it’s too late.

Regine Abel released two very diferent SFR stories in this time frame. The first, Alien Awakening (Sikarian Novella), was a very enjoyable read, although there’s no conflict per se. The reader follows the heroine through a series of startling changes and mutations. If you ever wondered what it would be like to turn into an ocean dweller, author Abel describes the process beautifully. I hope this is going to be the beginning of a series. The synopsis: Fear not the second dawn of humanity.

After contracting a strange virus that strikes only a fraction of the population, Malaika is ushered to a quarantine facility. The luckier patients are released to resume their normal lives, but with growing signs of mutation in her body, Malaika already knows she won’t be going home. What will become of her? Who is that mysterious hooded man with the glowing eyes? And why does she feel so strongly drawn to him?

Her second new release was Ravik’s Mercy (Braxians Book 2), which sounds much more action packed and is set in space. It’s on my TBR. The blurb: For Braxia. For the future. For revenge.

As the rarest hybrid in the galaxy, Mercy has been forced to hide in plain sight for fear slavers and collectors would hunt her down. Quite ironic, considering her late father had been the greatest slaver of the Guldan Empire. Determined to make amends for some of the wrongs he has done, she goes on a mission to Braxia. But those plans are quickly derailed when she encounters Ravik; a mountain of a man with a fearsome face, and a planet in turmoil.

As the new ruler of Braxia, Ravik is surrounded by enemies. His planet is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy and stuck in ancient, bigoted ways. When an exotic, sassy, and strong female reluctantly accepts his protection during her stay on Braxia, she becomes both his strength and his greatest weakness. As his detractors plot and scheme against him, Ravik fears the horrors of his past will destroy the fragile happiness and glimmer of hope this woman has brought him and his people.

In this brutal, unforgiving world, greed, hatred, and twisted obsessions will clash in a bid for power, for the future, and for revenge.

To finish on a more light hearted note, New York Times Best Selling Author Michelle M. Pillow has a new alien mail order brides story, Snow: A Qurilixen World Novella: Intergalactic Dating Agency (Galaxy Alien Mail Order Brides Book 6). These are always good fun-filled adventure with steamy moments and here’s the blurb: Tushar (aka Snow Chaos) knows there is little chance of finding a wife on his ice-ball of a home planet. Few can survive the subzero temperatures. When Galaxy Alien Mail Order Brides offers to introduce them to women eager for love, he and his brothers can’t resist, but Earth is far from welcoming.

He knows he should focus on getting home, but all he can think about is laying claim to the sexy scientist who works for the bad guys.

Jennifer works for the Milano Foundation in an attempt to undermine their efforts. When Snow and his brothers land, it’s like a dream come true for her diabolical alien-kidnapping coworkers. Now she has to make a choice–keep her cover, or betray a dangerous corporation to save the alien she’s falling in love with.

Snow might be a blue humanoid from another planet, but life with him might be worth the risk.

Happy reading until the next assortment of new releases arrives!
