The origin TV show Merlin was the BBC’s big sci-fi fantasy show that had families across the nation tuning in on Saturday nights. But the show finished recently so the BBC needed to find something new to fill the void. And may I present Atlantis.
Atlantis follows Jason, a guy who, upon his search for his father in his yellow submarine, gets sucked into a bright light in the middle of the ocean and finds himself washed up on the beach in the lost city of Atlantis. There he meets the infamous Hercules and his sidekick Pythagoras. Although Hercules (played by Mark Addy — Game of Thrones) is not exactly the picture of the legend as he is known.
There is a great cast in the show including Jemima Rooper (Hex, Lost in Austen), Juliet Stevenson (Bend it Like Beckham, The Hour) and Gemma Arterton’s little sister, Hannah. The role of Jason is played by newbie Jason Donnelly.
The show is a couple of episodes in and so far we’ve seen Hercules and Medusa, so I can imagine that more Greek mythological characters are going to pop up throughout the series.
