Richard Matheson captured my imagination with his first story (Born of Man and Woman – SF Hall of Fame Volume 1) and never stopped entertaining and intriguing me; when I learned that some of my favorite films had been based on stories of his (The Incredible Shrinking Man, The Omega Man) I understood why I found them so fascinating.
Matheson has a way of capturing the dark side of humanity and illuminating it in unexpected ways.
I’ve enjoyed so much of his work over the years I thought that it would be fitting to provide Amazing Stories’ readers with a filmography of many and diverse examples of his works, stories that appeared on little-remembered thriller shows through The Twilight Zone, Star Trek, and more recently Masters of Horror. Below are links to the full versions of many of the shows produced from Richard’s scripts (though you may have to endure some commercials and in the case of Vimeo you will need to download their viewer – which is easily removed once used).
I can think of no better way to pay homage to Mr. Matheson, nor any better way to experience his wonderful imagination at work (other than reading the originals, which I highly recommend).
