Vera C. Rubin “Largest Camera Ever Made” Telescope Shares First Images

Vera C. Rubin helped establish the existence of “dark matter”.

The observatory, built in Chile, is comprised of the largest digital camera ever created.  The telescope will spend ten years observing the same region of the southern sky, and you can see some First Look images here.

The purpose is to conduct the Legacy Survey of Space and Time, a time lapse view of the southern sky, offering insight and greater understanding of dark matter.
