Berlin Sci-Fi Filmfest presents the Australian Sci-Fi Showcase in association with Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival on Saturday to Sunday, April 3-4, 2021.
Seven Australian films encompassing the vast themes and infinite possibilities of speculative cinema will represent the Oz sector as part of the inaugural Australian Sci-fi Showcase. This is an online screening series hosted by the Berlin Sci-fi Filmfest in conjunction with the Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival. The key aim is to create an exchange between the festivals to allow Australian and German films to access a global audience.
The shorts will screen to a geo-blocked European audience in what will be the first co-presented program initiative between the two festivals. All but one of the films was screened at the 2020 Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival in November 2020. The Quiet, by student filmmaker Radheya Jegatheva, has been added to the program.
A corresponding line-up of German-language science fiction shorts was screened in Sydney under the banner, The DACH Session. Taking its name from the acronym for the German-language region comprising Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the line-up premiered at the Berlin Sci-fi Filmfest and will be presented as a physical theatrical event as part of the Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival’s ‘Satellite Series’.
