The Chandra Observatory has discovered a white dwarf star emitting supersoft X-rays, calling into question conventional wisdom about how X-rays are produced by dying stars. The star ASASSN-16oh is producing supersoft X-rays that are not due to fusion, but instead due to hot gasses in the accretion disk.
