New Releases in Science Fiction Romance for September

Time to talk about more science fiction romance new releases and lucky for me there is a constant flow of exciting new books all the time.

Gena Showalter returned to her Alien Huntress series this past week with Dark Swan, much to the glee of a number of SFR readers. Here’s the story:  Lilica Swan isn’t quite human or otherworlder; she is the best—and worst—of both.

She is willing to do whatever proves necessary to save her sister from the seductive and deadly Alien Investigation and Removal agent, Dallas Gutierrez, even bonding her lifeforce to his by effectively marrying him. But the bond will fade without consummation. Can Dallas resist his insatiable desire for the powerful beauty? Or will she lead to his ultimate downfall?

Divinity Bureau by Tessa Clare is described by the publisher as “The Hunger Games meets Romeo and Juliet…” and certainly sounds promising (I put it on my To Be Read list). The plot: Roman Irvine is a disgruntled IT Technician for the Divinity Bureau, a government agency that uses random selection to decide who lives and who dies. In a world where overpopulation has led to pollution, a crippled economy, and a world in crisis, he has accepted the bureau’s activities as a necessity. That is until he meets April McIntyre.

April has every reason to be suspicious of Roman. He works for the Divinity Bureau, which sent her father to an early grave. However, he is also sweet and loyal, and unbeknownst to her, he saved her life. As Roman and April fall deeper in love, the deeper they are thrust into the politics of deciding who lives and who dies. Someone wants April dead. And the bureau’s process of random selection may not be so random after all.

A new book that made it onto my kindle right away was Seeing With the Heart by Evangeline Anderson. A new entry in her Kindred Series of interstellar romances, which I keep on my must buy list, the book features a blind heroine and a scarred hero. Author Anderson has put a lot of effort into her worldbuilding over the course of the series, which gives each story a nice underpinning. The blurb: A warrior with a tragic past who has scars on both his face…and his heart

A beautiful woman, blind from the age of sixteen.

When they meet, the attraction is sizzling but when Molly regains her sight, will Braxx turn away from her? Or can she convince him she isn’t looking with her eyes…but Seeing with her Heart?

Braxx is a Beast Kindred with a painful past. A traumatic crash stole his brother and his bride from him and left half of his face horribly scarred. Desperate to avoid the pitying and disgusted looks he gets whenever he goes out, he takes a job as a scout, travelling across the universe to find new trade partners and power sources for the Kindred. He thinks he’ll never love again until he comes back to Earth and meets Molly.

Dr. Molly Reynaud has a doctorate in Cultural Anthropology. She’s also completely blind and has been since a car accident stole both her parents and her sight at the age of sixteen. Chosen to do a field study on the elusive Tal’ossi people from Tal’os Trenta, she doesn’t expect to have feelings for the Kindred warrior who is supposed to guard her there. But she can’t seem to help the instant connection she feels to Braxx and she knows he feels the same for her.

But he’s scarred on the inside too and he tells himself such a perfect female isn’t for him.

Then the unthinkable happens—Molly is kidnapped by the Deep Dwellers of Tal’ossi and taken down to the subterranean depths as a bride for their leader. Braxx must go after her and suddenly the idea of claiming turns from a wish to a necessity.

Can Braxx overcome his tragic past and save the woman he loves? And can Molly convince him they belong together? Both of them will have to practice Seeing with the Heart or they will be parted forever…

A sequel that many readers have been waiting for and seem to love, judging by the reviews, is Adaptation 2 by Pepper Pace. The story: Carmella was still a teen when the Motherships first appeared dotting the skies over the Earth. For years the world tried to normalize while the silent Motherships hovered. And then they arrived, promising that they meant no harm. But within 10 years, 80% of the world’s population would be wiped out.

Including everyone that Carmella loved.

In book one Carmella comes face to face with one of the blobs. He does an impetuous act of kindness by impregnating her with a child to help ease her loneliness. But now the risks are grave as Bilal cannot imagine leaving her and his child behind—yet the Centaurians have other ideas.

In book two Bilal has been granted five years by the Centaurians to study his human mate and child, but each day he only falls deeper in love with his family and life as a human. As Bilal’s time on earth comes to a close he will need to fight against everything that he thought he knew about life in order to live the life that he’s always desired.

In this final book of the Adaptation series Carmella, Bilal and baby Raj will take you on a journey of love, loyalty and a battle that transcends galaxies.

Lobo (Alien Mail Order Brides #7)  by Tasha Black incorporates canines into the plot: After a bad break-up with a long-term boyfriend Veronica can finally devote herself fully to training search and rescue dogs for the local police department. The only problem is that she has to train the humans too, and they’re not as much fun as the K-9 officers.

Until Lobo…

Lobo has arrived on Earth with nothing but the brand-new human body he inhabits and the mission to find a mate and annihilate her with pleasure until she accepts him. Although nearly every Earth female he meets seems most eager to get to know him better, Lobo finds himself drawn only to Veronica. And she refuses to acknowledge their mutual attraction. The only way to her heart is through the dogs.

When one of the K-9s is in trouble, it’s up to Veronica to help him but there’s only one problem—dogs can’t talk. And while the rest of the department is ready to give up on the canine, Lobo offers to help solve the mystery and save Veronica’s best friend.

Can Veronica accept Lobo’s help while hanging onto her feelings? Or will the sexy alien bring her heart to heel?

Veronica will have to be one sly dog to avoid Lobo teaching her new tricks…

A quick mention of two others that I enjoyed—Corsair’s Captive by the always reliable Ruby Dixon, and Caveman Alien’s Mate (the tiger striped hero and the dinosaur on the cover lured me in—it was a fun romp). I’ve got The Alien and the Wedding Planner by Lizzie Lynn Lee on my To Be Read list—the title alone grabs my attention.

Say yes to the spacesuit maybe?
