Chinese Astronauts Stranded In Orbit – C.J. Cheeryh Comments

In a post on Facebook, famed Science Fiction author C.J. Cherryh (Downbelow Station, Cyteen, Alliance Rising) posted the following regarding the three Chinese astronauts (Taikonauts) currently stranded in orbit following the impact of space debris on their return capsule:

“The whole world supports the astronauts of whatever nation: once up there, they’re of this Earth, not just a nation, and whatever we can do to help them, we should.”

Kind of like those resupply mission scenes in The Martian, but in reverse.

We applaud and support the sentiment.

An article on the stranding in Scientific American notes:

“According to NASA, as of today, there are more than 45,000 human-made objects orbiting Earth. Some of them could cause severe damage to space stations and satellites, endangering the global space economy floating above us, which is currently valued at more than $600 billion.”
