Genre Films On the NY Times Top 100 List

Recently the New York Times completed publishing their list of the top 100 films of the 21st Century, or at least that portion of it that we’ve already experienced.

The Times gathered 500 of the most influential actors, directors and other industry folks.

The full list can be found here, but of course that’s not what we’re interested in.   What we’re interested in is, how many and what genre films made it?

The long and short of it is, about 20% of the films could be considered genre – science fiction, fantasy and horror – which  considering the industry’s general disdain for genre during the previous century (how many science fiction films received an Academy Award for best picture, actor, actress, director, screen play in the past century?
