Mini-Editorial
Yes, there are many, many people in our community still very upset and shocked by the outcome of the recent US elections. Like most, here at Amazing Stories we are still working through it and trying to figure out the implications for the future, ours, yours and the country’s.
For a bit of more SF-centered commentary, contemplate the fact that Heinlein, (along with Jack London – The Iron Heel, and Sinclair Lewis – It Can’t Happen Here) in Revolt in 2100 and later, in To Sail Beyond the Sunset, foretold and warned of what now seems almost inevitable. Here’s a quite prophetic quote by RAH (note that TSBTS was first published in 1987):
“Elections are won not by converting the opposition but by getting out your own vote, and Scudder’s organization did just that. According to histories I studied at Boondock, the election of 2012 turned out 63 percent of the registered voters (which in turn was less than half of those eligible to register); the True American party (Nehemiah Scudder) polled 27 percent of the popular vote… which won 81 percent of the Electoral College votes.”
“In 2016 there was no election.”
