A fun trend in science fiction romance the past several years has been the upswing in books with a holiday theme. I thought it would be timely to highlight a few from 2019 for your reading enjoyment!
AN ALIEN FOR CHRISTMAS (ZERCONIAN WARRIORS BOOK 16) by Sadie Carter
Christmas is coming to Zerconia. There are gifts under the tree, holiday cheer, and a hunky alien warrior who just doesn’t know when to quit. . .
Keely’s smart. She’s a survivor. She’s learned to protect herself. What she doesn’t know is how to deal with him. He’s stubborn. He’s obtuse. And he’s too damn gorgeous for her own good.
Que is a warrior on a mission. To make Keely his. It is not a mission that he intends to fail. When both of them are sent on a mission off-planet, Que knows it’s his chance to convince the beautiful human female they are meant to be together. Somehow.
Maybe what he needs is some sort of Christmas miracle.
A WOLVENK HOLIDAY (WOMEN OF DOR NYE NOVELLA) by Poppy Rhys
Wounded and trying to survive the bitter cold, Kiona experiences the shock of her life when a wolfy alien finds her. Thorn doesn’t expect to sniff out an off-worlder–one unlike any he’s ever seen–but he can’t leave her to die. It’s the cold season… And Thorn is the least of her worries.
THE ALIEN BEFORE CHRISTMAS by Luna Hunter
EMMA – Chasing a lead got me snowed in, hundreds of miles away from home in my beat-up old car. I close my eyes for a brief second to ward off the cold, and I awake to find myself in a luxurious cabin, cared for by a gorgeous alien male. He sternly forbids me from leaving my room. What else can I do but disobey? What I discover shocks me to my very core. A workshop. Reindeer. Flipping elves. The broad-chested alien hunk is no-one other than Santa himself. And now that I know his secret… he’s never letting me go.
NIKOLAX – Interfering with humanity is strictly forbidden by the Council. I break that rule once a year on the 25th of December. I try to spread a little joy, and bring a smile to the faces of those who need it the most. And then I find Emma, cold and alone, and I break every rule there is. For she is the one, my mate, my everything. I can feel it in my horns. There’s only one problem… if the Council knows she’s at my workshop, they will hunt us down to the edge of the galaxy. Can I keep her my secret? And is true love worth risking the wrath of the galaxy’s most dangerous entity?
THE SOLSTICE PUDDING (WHEN HOLIDAYS ATTACK) by Angel Martinez
Chief Engineer Shandi Leavenworth has been crushing on Major Tyra Sur ever since she joined station staff, though the laconic customs officer doesn’t give up personal information easily. A few scraps of information leads Shandi to the perfect Solstice present, until of course everything goes horribly wrong.
Major Sur took the job on Onwa Station for the stability, the quiet, and out of a need to be useful. It’s been all of those things up until the woman she’s been quietly flirting with at the bar puts in a desperate call for help. There’s no question they need to save the station, but Tyra’s not so sure about saving their budding relationship.
A CURVY GIFT FOR THE ALIEN WARRIOR by Luna Voss
On Tessa’s planet, humans coexist with a savage race of aliens known as the Kyrzons. As one of the lucky humans who is not fated to be sold as a bride to an alien warrior, Tessa is perfectly content to live out her days in Human Territory. But all of that changes when she is captured by a Kyrzon slaver. All of a sudden, Tessa finds herself presented as a holiday gift to Chief Borrik, an imposing alien leader with a love of curvy Earth women. Borrik isn’t expecting to take in a human for the holidays, but one look at Tessa, scared and shivering, and he knows he can’t send her back out into the cold wilderness. So he decides to keep her. What begins as an accident soon blossoms into a passionate romance, as both human and alien discover a love they didn’t even realize they were craving.
JINGLED (TRIBUTE BRIDES OF THE DREXIAN WARRIORS BOOK 7) by Tana Stone
Naughty or nice? For the women abducted from Earth and claimed as tribute brides for the Drexian warriors, being on the naughty list isn’t so bad. Not when being naughty is so tempting. It’s Christmas on the Drexian space station, and the abducted Earth women are in the mood for some holiday fun. They may have been taken from their homes and mated to bad-ass alien warriors, but that’s no reason they can’t throw a holiday party to make them feel like they’re back on Earth.
With the help of the station’s colorful wedding planners and stylists, the tribute brides are decking the halls and jingling the bells. And when it comes to their Drexians mates, the stockings aren’t the only things that are hung. Six steamy Drexian-human couples are all eager to steal more than a few kisses under the mistletoe. And they might even get to do some merry matchmaking while they’re at it!
TUFFY CLAUS by Linda Mooney
It’s another night on the job for Deputy Sheriff Barbara Mero, giving chase to a suspect in a stolen vehicle. But when someone beats her to the perp, she’s not sure whether to step in or not. Before she can stop him, a sledgehammer-wielding bearded biker on a red Harley delivers his own punishment, but with his parting words, Babs isn’t so sure he’s another bad guy.
After further investigation, Babs knows this vigilante “Santa” meant well, but there’s no proof he was even there. And after a few more run-ins with the red-cloaked badass, she’s torn between duty and justice, but in her heart she knows he’s the real deal.
You see, there’s a side of the story of Santa that doesn’t get told, and that’s where Dominik comes in. Being the twin to Kris, Dom’s job isn’t near as merry, though still necessary, answering the letters from the kids who want more than just toys. Those who want a better, safer life, food, and shelter. Basic needs a kid shouldn’t have to wish for on Christmas. Alhough he’s accepted his own lot in life, Dominik still has one regret. It’s a lonely life. There’s another side to jolly old Saint Nick, and he ain’t a saint.
HOMEWORLD FOR THE HOLIDAYS (THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMEWORLD SECURITY BOOK 12) by Cassandra Chandler
Buddy didn’t mean to stow away on an alien warship. He just wanted to surprise Nika with a holiday dinner she’d never forget. But now, he’s stuck aboard the Reckoning with his dog, of all things, headed to a star system far from Earth and the Christmas dinner where he planned to introduce Nika to his family.
Nika has enough on her plate building colonies, dome worlds, and space stations in the Sol system—all without Earth’s governments detecting their presence. With a war going on throughout the galaxy, it’s up to her to create sanctuaries for sentients who have lost their homeworlds. When she’s called aboard the Reckoning to track down odd system errors—and pulled from a holiday dinner with Buddy—she knows something’s gone very wrong. It goes from bad to worse when she finds Buddy and his dog on board.
Now, they have to work together to figure out how to fix the ship for good, keep Buddy and his dog hidden, and forge an alliance with a planet full of super strong warriors with impulse control issues. For a galaxy at war, can a chef, his dog, and a little holiday four-part-harmony pave the way to peace?
