Editor’s Note: This year we begin our Halloween celebrations a week early with this offering from Duncan Long.
It was our original intention to publish this illustrated story by the master of suspense – Edgar Allan Poe – directly on the site. However, doing so would unfortunately not present this work in its best light. In addition to illustration and layout, Duncan prepared a special font for this presentation, one that we can not reproduce here.
The font, the paper (neo-parchment), the illustrations and the layout are all parts of a gorgeously rendered whole. It would not be fair to the reader nor to Duncan (or to Edgar!) to present this work in anything other than its original format. We have therefore decided to present a gallery of the images contained in this short book and provide the original PDF format as well.
You can download the PDF here (please do, this is a luscious work!)
Next week we’ll bring you the remaining two stories in this triptych – The Masque of the Red Death and The Raven
Very beautiful images.
