A documentary about Hugo Gernsback and his on-going contributions to both society and science fiction recently surfaced, somehow managing to evade our vue screens until now.
Tune In To The Future is a straight-forward – and accurate – presentation of the publisher/inventor/future-maker, and it features some well-known industry folks – Mike Ashley, Brother Guy Consolmagno, Joe Haldeman, Michio Kaku, Farah Mendlesohn, Steve Silberman, Gary K. Wolfe and Gary Westfahl among others.
The presence of Mr. Westfahl gave me hope that this documentary would be a bit more nuanced in its analysis and I was not disappointed. The resources they chose to include here are like the creme de la creme of SF commentators.
I think you’ll be a bit surprised as to where this documentary comes down on the bankruptcy that cost Gernsback Amazing Stories.
May be viewable on Tubi for free and is available for free and/or a fee at these additional outlets:
Steve Davidson is the publisher of Amazing Stories.
Steve has been a passionate fan of science fiction since the mid-60s, before he even knew what it was called.
