AMAZING THINGS: Additional Awards and News From Loncon3

Several other awards are routinely given out at Worldcons that are not the Hugo Awards.  We’re happy to report on the following:

The Forrest J Ackerman Big Heart Award: Vincent Docherty.

First Fandom Hall of Fame: John Clute

Sam Moskowitz Archive Award (for excellence in collecting): Mike Ashley

First Fandom Posthumous Hall of Fame: John “Ted” Carnell and Walter H. Gillings

Special Committee Award: Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, in recognition of the first published appearance of Superman.

I’m personally extremely pleased to see the recognition that Vince, John and Mike were given;  each and everyone of them has contributed greatly to fandom and the genre and I have had the pleasure of interacting with them over the past several years.  These are well-deserved wins on everyone’s part and a fine recognition of their important contributions to the history of the genre, the running of conventions and the preservation of our collective history, traditions and community.

Mike Glyer has some great pics of some of the winners over on File770, as well as some pictures from the first day of the con.
