This past weekend the Baltimore Science Fiction Society celebrated its 50th year.
I attended many Balticons in the late 70s and early 80s and consider BSFS to be one of my fannish “homes”. It’s great to see them celebrating such a milestone.
That milestone includes press coverage that certainly would never have surfaced in the year of the club’s founding and is still pretty remarkable today – fairly comprehensive and pretty positive, not to mention getting most of the names right.
Here’s a link via Mike Walsh’s (Old Earth Books), an early BSFS Fan (and fannish friend) Facebook page (Balticon 50th Anniversary)
The interesting commentary on the web is that they are grateful to the newspaper for mentioning that science fiction comes in literary form (as well as the unbiquitous film and television fare).
