UPDATE: 1:30 pm edst, Sunday, 8/17/2014: A short video of what may be sound & recording tests of the Award Ceremony podium has been posted to Ustream.
Later today (in just a few short hours), the 2014 Hugo Awards will be presented at Loncon3, the 72nd World Science Fiction Convention.
Below is a complete list of the Hugo Award Finalists (as distinguished from the Hugo Award Nominees, which is a much longer list. Each of the Hugo Award categories will nominally have five Finalists, drawn from the entire list of Nominees (except in the event of too few votes or ties). (See the Hugo Awards website for details.)
The Hugo Awards Ceremony will be broadcast live on Ustream, beginning at 8 PM British Summer Time (3 PM EDST).
Amazing Stories will be watching the broadcast and will be updating this post with the winners of each category by highlighting the winner and placing them at the top of their respective categories.
Of particular note this year are Ann Leckie’s nomination for Best Novel for Ancillary Justice; should that novel win the category, Ann Leckie will have garnered a “quadruple crown” of major awards – Nebula, Clarke, Locus (and others).
Also of particular note will be the voting results in Best Novel, Best Novella, Best Novelette and Best Short Story due to accusations of block voting by various and sundry fan groups. Following the results , It WILL be possible to discern whether or not anyone (company or individual) has influence over a large enough constituency of voters to sway the Hugo Award results through social networking. It will also be possible to obtain at least a SWAG of how many voters one must have in their pocket to insure a win. (Note: The above is NOT viewed as a positive development.)
