Artists’ Alley:
Victor Habbick

We’re looking for you!

Artists’ Alley is seeking artists to participate this year at Norwescon. We welcome a wide range of crafts and artists who are willing to share their skills and knowledge with other con-goers. We hope to educate and grow interest in what you do by connecting you with the “non-artist” who enjoys the same sci-fi/fantasy geek things that you do.

More information and sign-up form here.

Locus Awards
Norwescon is a proud sponsor of the 2013 Locus Awards Banquet being held here in Seattle. The Locus Awards are an annual set of literary awards presented by Locus: The Magazine of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Field. The award winners are selected from a poll of the magazine’s readers. These awards were first presented in 1971 and Norwescon is proud to be part of this long standing tradition.

NWC 35 Gone, but not Forgotten
As we move closer to Norwescon 36, are you curious about how Norwescon 35 went? Well, wonderfully, of course! If you’d like a response that’s a little bit more detailed, our Norwescon 35 Post-Con Report (1.3MB .pdf) is now available!

Norwescon 36 (2013)

Less than 4 days left to Pre-register!

Registration closes on February

25th!

Registration for Norwescon 36 is coming along smashingly. We are all excited about the new Registration system. Things will look different this year since we are going to a kiosk system where you will enter all your own information and the reg staff will only be taking payments and printing badges.

There will be traffic control people to direct you to where you need to go, people to help you at the kiosk computers, and also the usual people solving problems. Pre-registration closes on February 25th so get your advance membership before it is too late and save $5 on the price at the door!

Hope to see you there,
Sally Woehrle

Art Auction for Charity – Donations Needed
The charities office is seeking donations for the upcoming arts/charities auction for Norwescon 36.  If you have one or more items that are in good condition that you believe are of interest to people in the science fiction/fantasy community – that is to say you believe people would not only like to own but would be willing to part with actual money to purchase – please contact Phillip Buff via email at charities@norwescon.org with a description of the item(s) (photos appreciated if available).

Exciting Special Events…

Maxie’s Lounge

Maxie’s Lounge at the top of the tower will once again be open exclusively to Norwescon members on Friday and Saturday nights during the convention. Be sure to bring your IDs and come on up for some 21+ entertainment. We have some great surprises lined up for you this year!

Games Already Scheduled
We are excited to let you all know we have over 140 hours of scheduled games! D&D 3/4/Next, Settlers, Call of Cthulu and Pathfinder, to name just a few. We also have two Kickstarter Games to try out; Cheapass Games and Game Smiths LLC. Hurry and get your game scheduled now! The Scheduled Gaming signup forms are on the website, if you want to run a card or board game (or many) fill out this form.

Donations for the Game Room
We are accepting any charitable donations for the game room to be used for the Norwescon Scheduled Gaming Library and of course, door prizes. Those who donate will be recognized in the Scheduled Gaming Room as well as in some of the Scheduled Gaming Advertisements this year. Contact Norwescon charities to donate and mak enote that your donation is for Scheduled Gaming.

Masquerade
There is still time to prepare your costume for the Masquerade! Be creative! You know you always wanted to make something out of cardboard boxes or that weird packing material that came with your television! (Seriously, just Google “costume from cardboard box” and you’ll see some amazing stuff. A little duct tape and paint and you’re good to go!) The rules and forms are on the website. We hope to see you there!

Dances
Our dance themes this year range from celebrating the mighty Thor’s Day to reveling in our survival of the Mayan Apocalypse by way of dressing in togas, and on to the classic hoedown. We are also bringing back the Under 21 dance for the younger crowd so bring your dancing shoes and prepare to shimmy!

Scavenger Hunt

The scavenger hunt is going digital this year! Grab your cell phone or digital camera and get ready to comb the convention for items that you think will fit the list. Interpretation is half the fun!

Non-profit Fair
This year we want to acknowledge the groups actually out there trying to save the world and make it a better place for all of us. If you know of any special groups you would like to have at the convention, please drop them a line or contact us at specialevents@norwescon.org. We have some amazing organizations in the area and would love to showcase them!

“Life is like being a volunteer, ya never know who your gonna meet.”

Norwescon runs on volunteers – without them there would be no convention. As such, everybody is encouraged to volunteer at the convention for a few hours. Go to the Volunteer Table in the convention lobby or the Volunteer Office and sign up for a shift (or two, or three, or four, or five).

Help us repeat the success of years past and volunteer!

Come on down to the volunteer lounge and lend a hand.

Thank you,

Elana
Head of Volunteers

volunteers@norwescon.org

Norwescon is a science, science fiction and fantasy convention that takes place on Easter Weekend each year.  We are an all-volunteer organization and always have room for more dedicated volunteers.  Without members, though, there would be no reason to hold a convention; thank you for your support!

Sincerely,
Norwescon Publications Team
