It is the time of year when the studios start looking at new pilots to hit screens this year. Some we will never see, some will never last more than a few episodes and others will be come modern day classics.
As science fiction based TV shows continue to become big hits, we can be guaranteed to see a few new shows coming to our screens this year.
S.H.E.I.L.D – As the cast of many Marvel comics continues to grace the big screen, Marvel is taking the centre of its Avengers smash-hit to the small screen. This is good news for Agent Coulson fans (as we can assume he won’t be in any more of the films) as Clark Gregg will be bringing the character back.
The Returned – Deceased loved ones have been mourned, yet in the town of Aurora the lives of the townsfolk will change as the people they have buried suddenly start to reappear.
Oxygen – from the people that brought us Life on Mars, this show is in the style of District 9 and follows a high school scheme which attempts to integrate a group of humanoid aliens who have been stranded on earth.
The Hundred – This show is set almost 100 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilisation. A spaceship housing the lone human survivors sends people back to earth to investigate if it is possible to go back home.
The Originals – This show follows the very first vampire family from the hit show Vampire Diaries in this new spin off.
The Selection – this is an epic romance set 300 years in the future based on a series of books by Kiera Cass. It centres on a poor woman who is chosen by a lottery to participate in a competition to become the next queen of a war-torn nation. Sounds a little like the Hunger Games.
Sleepy Hollow – the Star Trek writers are bringing this classic hit to the small screen.
The Strain – follows a vampire virus that infects New York and the doctor investigating.
Witches of East End – based on a hit book, it follows a mother and her two daughters, who don’t know they are next generation of witches in the family.

Kieran, yes it's based on Guillermo's books
Have mixed feelings about getting excited about new shows nothing like the disappointment when they cancel your favorite show. Just the fact its not a mind numbing reality show I will get suckered into watching. This time I will just assume it will be canceled from the beginning and well may or may not keep my interest with that attitude.
"The Strain" – is that based on the books by Guillermo del Toro?
"Oxygen" is the only one that sounds interesting to me, so it has promise. The others are either too derivative or following the trend du jour (i.e., vampires, Hunger Games, witches, and search for Earth/return to Earth. *sigh*
