Hachette Book Group (HBG) has acquired more than 1,000 Disney Book Group titles for the Little, Brown Books for Young Readers line, including numerous titles that have not yet been published, roughly doubling the imprint’s backlist. The deal encompasses YA and middle-grade titles, as well as board books, picture books, and graphic novels.
Disney will continue to publish works that can be developed “across multiple platforms and media,” and will continue to operate Disney Hyperion, Disney Press, Disney Editions, Marvel Press, and Lucasfilm Press. Rick Riordan’s work, and his Rick Riordan Presents imprint, will remain with Disney, as will the works of Eoin Colfer.
HBG has handled sales and distribution for Disney imprints for years, and purchased about a thousand adult titles from Disney Hyperion in 2013. The deal does not include staff changes. Executive v-p and publisher Megan Tingley plans to hire staff to support the acquired works.
