Goodbye 2019, Hello 2020

Wow.  Twenty Twenty.

As a fan of science fiction who began reading the genre a half century ago, I feel like I’m entering truly uncharted territory.  1984 and no time traveling Terminator; 1999 and no Moon Disaster;  2001 and no star baby; 2019, no starships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.

It’s too early for Star Trek or Babylon 5 or a Star Gate.

We’re in the interrugnum, a time that’s largely a blind spot for the future imaginings found in our genre – a period of time often glossed over as a time when things fell apart and now, the post apocalypse.

But then there are plenty of pundits who will tell you that SF is not at all about predicting the future, but about reflecting the times we live in through a medium that allows us to examine things from alternate perspectives.

I don’t know if that last will cause comfort or concern about the coming decade.  Regardless, it inexorably arrives.

All we can do is make the best of it.

So lets do that.  Lets make the 2020’s the Best decade we can!

Wishing all of you and yours a happy, healthy, rewarding and safe New Years.  Don’t drink and drive.  Don’t drug and drive.  Don’t be that innebriated person.  Be kind, be joyous, share your love and don’t let the bastards get you down!
