Crew Dragon in Space: An Historic Launch for SpaceX and NASA

Yesterday saw an historica return to space from US soil for the first time in over nine years and, perhaps more importantly, the first time in the history of spaceflight that a private company has placed astronauts in Earth orbit.

SpaceX with NASA launched two astronauts on a mission to the International Space Station in SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule, riding atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The launch was conducted from Kennedy Space Center’s Pad 39-A, the same pad used to launch the first Moon missions.

I’m a Gemini/Apollo baby, so this launch looked a lot different than I’m used to, even a lot different from shuttle launches, but, despite wearing spacesuits resembling some odd take on Hugh Hefner’s loungewear, the launch was an exciting and historic moment.

Below, images taken during the coverage of the launch.
