Well, if Nolan’s right, then I should find the old Victrola so I can hear my Bix Beiderbecke records with full shellacky fidelity.
Nonsense. It was a wonderful experience, seeing this film for the first time at 21 years old at the Cinerama Theater in San Francisco in 1968, but celluloid is not the only or even the best way to see the film today. (It’s definitely better, however, than seeing a tiny version on a 26- to 40-inch TV screen, whether scan and pan or letterboxed.
Full-sized is indeed the only way to go.
