No review this week. It’s been pretty hectic for the last ten days, and something had to give. That’s not an entirely bad thing. Not trying to read a book and write review actually gave me a little time to assess these posts. For almost to years now, I’ve been looking at small press and independently published books.
I’ve tried to find items that I think meet professional standards that might be of interest to at least some of you. Everyone has different tastes, so of course YMMV.
I’d like to do something a little different this week. I want to know what some of you have read, either indie published or from a small press (preferably a new small press, not an established one that’s been around a while), that you think deserves a wider audience.
There’s a great deal of good work out there. No one person can keep up with all of it. I certainly can’t, which is why I’ve entitled this post “Biting Off More Than I Can Chew”. The pattern I’ve observed in my reading this past year is that I’m coming back to the same authors.
Nothing wrong with that, you understand. I just want to broaden my horizons.
So, in the comments, please let me know what you’ve read that has stood out. It can be the first novel from an indie author, a collection or anthology from a new small press, or something that’s been reprinted from a backlist that’s deserves to be rediscovered. Give me a small paragraph containing a synopsis of the plot and why you think it’s deserving.
You’ve got until the end of November to post your suggestions. I’ll pick one and review it here in January. The choice is entirely up to my discretion; in other words, I’ll pick the one that most appeals to me.
