Gary Dalkin

dalkin garyGary Dalkin is freelance editor and an independent writing consultant, working with writers at all stages of their careers, from those who have not yet been published or are just getting started, to established names and award winners. He has contributed to every issue of Writing Magazine, the UK’s best-selling magazine for writers, since 1999. Starting with the January 2014 issue he will be publishing a seven part series on story structure.

Gary is a former judge of the Arthur C. Clarke Award and former editor of Vector: The Critical Journal of the British Science Fiction Association. His work within the genre includes interviews with such celebrated writers as Sir Arthur C. Clarke, Robert Holdstock, Christopher Priest, Kevin J. Anderson, Cory Doctorow and Kathleen Ann Goonan, as well as television producer Gerry Anderson, composer Hans Zimmer and actors including Colin Baker, Sophie Aldred, and Ed Bishop. Gary has written articles on many aspects of SF Fantasy and Horror for titles such as, SFX, Interzone, Matrix and DeathRay.

Outside the genre Gary has interviewed musical artists such as Elmer Bernstein, George Fenton, Laura Michelle Kelly and Jordi Savall. He has been published by Empire, Films & Filming, Gramophone and The Los Angeles Review of Books, and has provided content for the BBC, HMV, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Opera House, the Royal Philharmonic, MusicWeb International, Northern Stage Theatre Company, Naxos and Mellowdrama Records. He played a key role in the launching of the Poole Literary Festival and the international New Media Writing Prize.

Currently editing a special anthology for Wayward Plants to be published in 2014, Gary is the editor of John Barry: The Man With The Midas Touch, the definitive biography of Britain’s greatest film composer. Gary works personally with Dr Jane Goodall, DBE, as volunteer coordinator for the Jane Goodall Institute Bournemouth Base Camp.
