Allen Steele Announces His Latest: Lemuria 7

Allen Steel posted an update on his forthcoming novel Lemuri 7:  why not hear it right from the author’s hand?

“I mentioned the other day that I have a new novel coming out soon, but I was rather vague about when. As it turns out, “Real Soon Now” happens to be next week. Tuesday, July 14 is when the Kindle edition of LEMURIA 7 will be available as a Kindle download, Don’t despair, print fans; the paperback edition — mass-market size! who says they’re extinct? — will also be available from Fantastic Books. Cover and interior illustrations by Ron Miller. Here’s the Amazon link:

This short novel (about 175 pages in print) stitches together three linked novellas that were published in “Asimov’s Science Fiction” over the past few years, including the first one, “Lemuria 7 is Missing”, which won the Asimov’s Readers Poll in 2023. It’s a pseudo-journalistic account of the disappearance of a private space-tourist moonshot, the “Lemuria”, on the Moon, and the subsequent search for the craft, its passengers, and — perhaps most importantly — how and why it vanished.

I’m back in near-future space-adventure mode for this one, and although there’s no connection between LEMURIA 7 and my early Near Space series (where the Moon was also a frequent setting), it’s the sort of hard-SF suspense story I enjoy writing. If you’re looking for a short novel to take along for a weekend trip to the beach, lake, or mountains, I think this will satisfy you.”

(We know it will satisfy, Allen.)
