MCM Manchester Comic Con 2017

Everyone should know by know that I’m a fan of comic con, especially those in the UK. I attend and take photos at the London con in May. I’m always excited to see that my friends are just as geeky as I. Thanks to my good friend Yvonne Carsley from Salford, England (a metropolitan borough of Greater Manchester) for sharing her experience and photographs with me of MCM Manchester Comic Con 2017. MCM Manchester Comic Con was held on the 29th and 30th of July this year. From the looks of the images I would say it was a rousing success, as all of MCM’s cons tend to be. Great fun, great costumes, and a great bunch of people. Many were eager to pose for photographs and discuss their costumes – singles, couples, and groups of cosplayers.

The post-con press release from MCM:

MCM Manchester Comic Con closed its doors to a successful weekend of pop culture, superhero fandom and 36,567 sci-fi fans, gamers, comic collectors, movie buffs and anime enthusiasts attending the two-day extravaganza.

Actor, voice artist and screenwriter David Hayter was present. He’s famous as the voice of Solid Snake in the hugely successful Metal Gear Solid videogame franchise. He made his MCM Comic Con debut. Fans queued round the block to meet him for his first ever UK signing!

Lou Ferrigno, star of iconic ‘70s superhero show The Incredible Hulk also headlined the show. He was joined by Star Wars and Harry Potter legend Warwick Davis. Also present were Power Rangers star and acclaimed anime voice actor Johnny Yong Bosch and Manu Bennett from Arrow, The Hobbit and Spartacus. Star Trek actress Denise Crosby (also from The Walking Dead and The New Adventures of Superman) was a fan favorite. Kai Owen and Gareth David-Lloyd, best known to sci-fi fans for their roles in Torchwood, were popular, as well.

Doctor Who spin-off series Class also took the show by storm.  Cast members Greg Austin, Sophie Hopkins and Vivian Oparah made an appearance at the fun-filled weekend of geeky goodness.

Manchester Central was bursting with incredible cosplayers, dedicated gamers, passionate comic readers, excited movie buffs. Just about every pop-culture niche was represented. It was a delight to see so many people turn up for a weekend of unleashing their inner geeks. Adults fulfilling childhood dreams of meeting their childhood icons. And, the children exploring a new world of superheroes and fantasies for the first time.

The theatre panels were packed over the weekend. Visitors heard from the likes of Sunday Times best-selling author Simon Scarrow and his former student-turned-writing partner, Lee Francis. They discussed what makes a best seller. Alan Partridge fan podcast Monkey Tennis, which recorded a new episode at the show, filled with japes, jokes, behind the scenes facts and trivia of the legendary Mancunian.

We’ll be returning in 2018 to celebrate our love for all things pop-culture!

Next up, we’ll be returning to Glasgow with MCM Scotland Comic Con on 23-24 September at the SEC!

And a parting shot. Pretty much how most of us feel at the end of Comic Con:
