From the Desk of Brian James Freeman

Dear Readers,

As the long-time managing editor of Cemetery Dance Publications, I’m often asked why we still publish short stories and anthologies and collections when the popular sentiment is that short fiction has gone out of style.

A lot of people even say the short story is DEAD, but I don’t agree. I love horror short stories. I grew up on them, and the first fiction I ever wrote was scary little fables inspired by the dark tales that had creeped me out as a kid. Besides, those who love the horror genre know that something being called DEAD is hardly the end of anything; sometimes it’s just the beginning.

There are still a lot of amazing writers who have dedicated the time and energy to learning the craft of writing a good, scary short story — a task that isn’t easy. Getting inside the head of the reader and making him or her think twice about turning off that last light in the room on a dark night is actually really tough. Read the Rest of Brian’s Letter >>

What ‘Crown & Key’ Authors Clay and Susan Griffith Wish You Would Ask Them About

I’ve asked husband and wife writing team Clay and Susan Griffith more than a few questions over the years, mostly about vampires, magic, and that kind of thing. I know that others have, as well. It’s to be expected, given that’s the kinds of things they write about.

When I had an opportunity to speak with them once again, this time at New York Comic Con 2016, I knew that I’d better dig a little deeper. After all, the obvious questions had already been addressed at length. Surely there was new ground to cover, but was the question that could take us there? After thinking about it at length, I stumbled upon a solution: I would ask them.
