Sneak Peek from Loncon3’s Souvenir Book

Tomorrow, Loncon3, the 72nd World Science Fiction Convention, officially kicks off.

As has been the tradition, every member of the convention (both those attending and those supporting) will receive a copy of the variously-named program/souvenir book.

These have come to be lavish print productions, copiously filled with art and articles, a Memory Book if you will.  Standard features usually include biographies of the Guests of Honor, a history of Worldcon, an art showcase, a piece of fiction or two, a list of the Hugo (and in this case Retro Hugo) nominees and a list of the members of that years convention.

They also usually include advertising promotions for future Worldcons, future Worldcon bids and even sometimes ads for hoax conventions.

This year’s Worldcon souvenir book also includes an ad from Amazing Stories, offering each and every member of the convention a free, 1 year subscription to the website and the many benefits that we are adding as quickly as we can.  Among other things, everyone signing up for this program will receive a copy of our 88th Anniversary issue, April 2014, in an electronic format of their choice (a $3.99 value and now available in our store).  They’ll also receive a subscriber’s discount on select items in the store, including the new posters and t-shirts we’ve been adding since yesterday.

That’s all great and wonderful and we’re happy to do it and hope that even more fans sign up at Worldcon than did at Detcon1 (the NASFiC where we rolled out this offer for the first time ever, receiving an unprecedented level of participation.  No lie, marketing types have been astounded, nay, AMAZED, at the response), but what we really wanted to bring your attention to today was the absolutely AMAZING piece of artwork and graphic design that Duncan Long turned out for this effort.  Here it is.  We don’t need to say much more!

Please note:  the 88th Anniversary edition, the April 2014 issue is currently available in our store, as are the two anthologies from FuturesPastEditions (with a third in the pipeline) and our limited edition comic – A Doctor for the Enterprise – is at the printer (only 500 copies, signed & numbered).  Visit our store to find out more!  We certainly ARE going places and hope you’ll come along for the ride!
